We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy.

Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces of change that I know.

About Counselling
Thankfully, mental health and the implications around it, is now much more talked about and understood. Therapy, is a process where trained professionals* offer a safe and confidential space to help individuals work through thoughts, feelings and behaviours; assisting them to overcome obstacles, address mental health challenges, and make positive changes that enhance their quality of life. My Approach I believe that we are all born good, driven by a desire for self-fulfilment and pursuit of one's full potential, our actualising tendency. Sometimes though, we can become stuck and find it hard to move forward. By visiting Grey Bear Counselling, you have taken the first steps in recognising your needs and even if not now, or with a different therapist, I believe that you are capable of the challenges ahead. My core approach is Person-Centred Integrative, offering you a genuine, non-judgemental and empathetic space to meet in. Although I am informed by other theories such as attachment, defence mechanisms, transactional analysis to name a few, my primary focus will be to build our relationship so that you are in a space where we might explore your thoughts and emotions safely. We will work at the pace you wish to go, and will review regularly, giving time to reflect on changes that may have occurred, and how you wish to continue moving forward. Having lived in small island communities and as an Expat, I have a true appreciation of what it is like to live in these environments and how anonymity can be a real issue for some when seeking help. Online therapy can allow peace of mind when selecting a counsellor who is empathetic to these concerns, but we each have our own perspective on how this is, and I am here to listen to hear how it is for you. It maybe that you just would like to speak to someone, to be heard, and that's ok, but some common types of challenges clients may face include: Anxiety Behavioural and emotional issues Bereavement Depression Eating disorders Identity Loneliness Neurodiversity concerns (self & family members) Obsesive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Paranoia Parental concerns Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Relationships Travel phobia Work place issues Sometimes, just recognising that you might be stuck, can be the momentum needed to start moving forward. *I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their ethical framework.
