(He/Him)
My Journey I’ve had the privilege of living and working in a variety of countries, including Egypt, the Philippines, the Channel Islands, and now the Netherlands. Originally from the UK, these diverse experiences have deepened my understanding of the unique challenges that come with living abroad. Relocation, while often an exciting adventure, can also bring feelings of loss—loss of identity, grief, and the emotional weight of leaving behind familiar places and people. I’ve walked this path myself, and I appreciate how difficult it can be to navigate these changes. Living as an expat, particularly in small communities like those found in the Channel Islands, presents its own set of challenges. Yet, it also offers unique rewards. My time there, in particular, sparked a deep desire to give back. Since 2021, I’ve volunteered with the Guernsey Counselling Service, a role that has not only allowed me to serve others but has also given me insight into how both belonging and isolation coexist in such close-knit communities. In smaller settings, maintaining privacy and anonymity can be especially difficult. When everyone knows each other, the prospect of seeking support or counselling can feel daunting. This tension between the desire for help and the fear of exposure is something I deeply empathise with. This understanding led me to establish Grey Bear Counselling in 2024, a practice dedicated to providing a confidential and safe space for individuals to be themselves—without judgment or fear of unwanted attention. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in schools, and this, along with becoming a father, has given me invaluable insight into the experiences of "Third Culture Kids"—those who grow up between different cultures and often face complex questions of identity and belonging. I recognise this, alongside the everyday pressures that many parents and families experience and the importance of nurturing mental well-being through practices like physical activity and self-care. Continued Growth I am committed to my own personal and professional growth, continually seeking out new training, research, and workshops to stay informed in an ever-evolving field. I also engage in regular professional supervision to ensure I am providing the best possible support to my clients. I firmly believe that self-awareness and reflection are key to helping others on their journey, and I bring that same approach to my counselling practice. Your Story, Your Journey While I have a broad range of experience, I don’t consider myself an "expert" in your life. What matters most to me is hearing your unique story and walking alongside you as you explore what truly is important to you. My role isn’t to direct or judge, but to listen with empathy and support you in finding your own path towards healing and growth. I am here to hold space for you, with the understanding that each journey is deeply personal, and I am honoured to be part of it. A Mindful Approach I approach life and counselling with a reflective mindset—looking at the lessons of the past, embracing the present moment, and staying hopeful about the future. My practice is informed by a variety of therapeutic approaches, allowing me to tailor our work together to your unique needs and circumstances. My goal as your counsellor is to help you discover your inner strengths and support you in moving towards a life that feels balanced, authentic, and fulfilling. As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am committed to providing professional, compassionate support tailored to your individual needs. I offer counselling through a Person-Centred Integrative Approach, which means you can expect a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. Whether you prefer in-person sessions or the flexibility of online counselling, I'm here to walk alongside you, at your pace. Together, we’ll work in a way that feels right for you, supporting your journey towards greater clarity, understanding, and emotional well-being.
